Rihanna is no doubt one of the worst role models in current times. She (not at any fault of her own) was the victim of domestic violence and instead of becoming some kind of spokesperson for survivors, donating to domestic violence charities or even speaking publicly and candidly about the ordeal to help other victims, she went on to record a song with her abuser. Not to mention the recent instagram posts of hers from Coachella where she glamourises drug use.
Ugh ugh ugh.
We shouldn’t pass judgment on her when we don’t know everything that happened. What Chris Brown was disgusting, and makes HIM a bad person. But she’s not obligated to go on and become a spokesperson. She was never in the wrong, and she’s entitled to move on with her life how she sees fit. It is her life after all. I admit I was disappointed when she recorded the song with him, but that’s her business too. And what does drug use have to do with that?

Zora Neale Hurston’s critique of Brown v. Board of Education. This is a perspective that we rarely hear about; integration actually hurt Black students in significant ways, making illegal Black institutions which, out of necessity, had offered services which would be impossible to replicate in places where the teachers and students were predominantly white. It also put us on the track to see Black-separatism-as-survival instead as Black-separatism-is-anti-progress. At the time, it made Zora Neale Hurston extremely unpopular, and it might have even killed her career. But now, when people still self-segregate and the education that Black children get is extremely questionable, even harmful…it’s hard to know if Brown v. Board was the right thing to do.

Serious problem here. I feel personally that integration was correct from a moral standpoint, and from an idea standpoint, but… It was implemented by racists. And it was implemented in a racist way.
